DotGitIgnore is a free .gitignore generator for software developers. It allows engineering teams to combine technology-specific templates across programming languages, web frameworks, IDEs, build systems, and operating systems into a single, cohesive, conflict-free configuration file.

What is a .gitignore file?

A .gitignore file tells Git which files and directories should not be tracked in version control. It prevents build outputs (dist/, target/), package caches (node_modules/, .venv/), local secrets (.env), and OS metadata (.DS_Store) from polluting commit logs.
